Help for One Word

Yesterday I posted on One Word for 2014.  I love seeing the words you’re choosing in the comments section – check them out and add yours!

I asked my mom what hers is and she said it’s a secret. 🙂 Guys, it’s not like this is a nuclear launch code.  And you will not be struck by lightning if you change your word in February.  Ask my brother, David.

If there was going to be One Word for this blog I pray it would be Grace, grace, and more grace!  Part of my goal is that we would take God seriously, but ourselves not so much, so jump in.  It’s safe, I promise.

If you’re considering choosing One Word for 2014 and are having some trouble, here’s some help from the author of the book, One Word, who was on the Today show.  As you reflect, he suggests, look in, look up, and look out.  View the 3 minute clip here.

  1. Thanks, Laura, for allowing a two word “One Word” this year. Now that’s leverage! It must be in our genes as I kept coming up with two words this past week. Mine our “one day”. For me that means be faithful, trust, persevere, and love just one day at a time. I’m tempted to keep track at the end of each day but that’s a bit scary. We’ll see. Thanks for encouraging us!

  2. Our family is picking the word Gratitude. Being grateful for all our blessings including Jesus, friends, family, warm home, health, and education. Also being grateful for daily events like smiles, kind words, acts of kindness, compliments, good rest, hugs and kisses, healthy food, pets, work, etc. We will continue sharing at dinner compliments we gave during the day or random good deeds we did to make someone’s day. Life can quickly become toxic if we forget daily gratitude and also forget to thank God for everything we have.

  3. I spoke about it this past weekend…the simple truth that God is ‘with’ us. Not a new thought, but a thought that changes everything if we really grab hold of it. A wise friend of mine told me once that Christian maturity isn’t about knowing more ‘stuff’. It’s about taking God’s simple truths and applying them to our lives. My word is ‘with’.
